AI website builders are having their moment. They promise instant websites, instant copy, instant layouts. And to be fair, some of them are pretty good at getting something online quickly. But for creatives, speed isn’t usually the problem. Personality is.
AI tools are brilliant at assembling the obvious. They know what a “standard” website looks like, and they can build it faster than any human. The trouble is, creative businesses rarely benefit from looking standard. Your website needs taste. It needs direction. It needs a sense of you.
AI can handle structure, but it can’t replicate judgement. It can give you a layout, but it can’t tell you why that layout matters. It can suggest copy, but it can’t understand your tone. It can generate images, but it can’t feel the difference between something that’s technically correct and something that actually feels right.
That doesn’t mean AI is useless. In fact, it’s great for early drafts. It helps you avoid the blank page. It gives you options to react to rather than starting from zero. The trick is remembering that AI should be the assistant, not the architect.
If you run a creative business, your website doesn’t need to be faster to build. It needs to feel unmistakably yours. And that part still needs a human.
